147. Prohibition on gambling in public places
(1) Any person frequenting or loitering in a public place for the purposes
of gambling or agreeing to gamble shall commit an offence and shall, on
conviction, be liable to a fine not exceeding 25,000 rupees and to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year.

(2) Any police officer may, without warrant, arrest any person found
committing an offence under this section and may seize any money, book or
paper or writing found in the offender's possession.
(3) In this section, “public place” includes any bridge, road, land, footpath, subway, alley or passage, whether a thoroughfare or not, which is for
the time being open to the public and the doorways and entrances of
premises abutting upon any ground adjoining, and open to, a road, shall be
treated as forming part of the road.
