9. Director-General
(1) The Director-General shall—
(a) be the chief academic and executive officer of the Open University;
(b) hold office for a period of 5 years, renewable for further periods of 3
years and on such terms and conditions as the Board may determine;
(c) in the absence of the Chairperson, preside at a Convocation and confer
degrees, diplomas or other academic qualifications upon persons entitled to receive them;
(d) exercise control over the affairs of the Open University;
(e) ensure the faithful observance of the provisions of this Act, the Statutes and the rules and regulations.
(2) (a) The Director-General may delegate any of his powers and duties to
any person or body of persons.
(b) In the absence of the Director-General, the Board may appoint a person,
whether or not a member of the Board, to act as Director-General, under such
terms and conditions as may be decided by the Board.
(c) The Acting Director-General shall have all the powers and duties of
the Director-General.
