Section 86: Lottery Committee

86. Lottery Committee (1) There is set up for the purposes of this Part a Lottery Committee which shall consist of— (a) a Chairperson; [Issue 9] G2 – 40 Revised Laws of Mauritius (b) a Vice-chairperson; (c) a representative of the Prime Minister’s Office; (d) a representative of the Attorney-General’s Office; (e) a representative of the Ministry responsible for the subject of finance; (f) a representative of the Government Printing Department; and (g) 2 other members. (2) The Chairperson, Vice-chairperson and the 2 members referred to in subsection (1) (g) shall be appointed by the Minister on such terms and conditions as he thinks fit. (3) The Lottery Committee shall be a body corporate. (4) The quorum of the Lottery Committee shall be 5. (5) The Chairperson, or in his absence, the Vice-chairperson, shall preside at any meeting of the Committee. (6) All acts, matters or things authorised or required to be done by the Lottery Committee shall be taken by a majority of the votes of the members present and voting, and in the event of an equality of votes, the Chairperson shall have a casting vote. (7) The Chairperson and other members of the Lottery Committee shall be paid such allowances as may be approved by the Minister. (8) The Lottery Committee established pursuant to the repealed Gaming Act shall be deemed to have been set up under this section and any act or thing done, or any obligation entered into or right or claim enforceable by or continued on page G2 – 41 G2 – 40 (1) [Issue 9] Revised Laws of Mauritius against that Committee, shall be deemed to be an act or thing done by, or any obligation entered into or right or claim enforceable by or against the Lottery Committee set up under this section.
