Section 2: Regulations for registration of aliens

2. Regulations for registration of aliens (1) The President may make regulations— (a) for requiring aliens residing or being in Mauritius to comply with such provisions as to registration, notification of change of abode or otherwise, as may be made by the regulations; (b) for the appointment of officers to carry the regulations into effect, and for conferring on such officers such powers as may be necessary or expedient for the purposes of the regulations; (c) for prescribing the fees to be paid by aliens in connection with their registration; (d) for determining what nationality is to be ascribed to aliens in doubtful circumstances; (e) for any ancillary matters for which it appears expedient to provide with a view to giving full effect to the regulations. (2) Regulations made under subsection (1) may provide that any person who contravenes them shall commit an offence and shall, on conviction, be liable to a fine not exceeding 500 rupees and to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months.
