Section 4: Authorised officer

4. Authorised officer (1) The supervising officer may designate such public officer as he considers appropriate to act as an authorised officer for the purpose of ensuring compliance with this Act. (2) (a) Every authorised officer shall — (i) be issued with an identity card issued by the supervising officer; and (ii) if so requested by the supervising officer or on leaving the public service, surrender his identity card. (b) An authorised officer who fails to surrender his identity card pursuant to paragraph (a) (ii) shall commit an offence and shall, on conviction, be liable to a fine not exceeding 50,000 rupees. (3) For the purpose of exercising his powers under this Act, an authorised officer may be accompanied by a police officer. (4) An authorised officer shall have the power to impound or seize an animal in accordance with this Act.
