Section 44: Death on board Mauritian ship or aircraft

44. Death on board Mauritian ship or aircraft (1) Where a death occurs on board any ship or aircraft registered in Mauritius, during any voyage, the master of the ship or aircraft shall draw up and sign a declaration of the death and have the declaration attested by 2 witnesses. (2) The declaration shall contain the names, age, sex and profession of the deceased, the place at which he has embarked and the cause of death. (3) On the arrival of the ship in any harbour of Mauritius or the landing of the aircraft, the master shall deliver the declaration to the Director of Shipping or the Director of Civil Aviation, as the case may be, for transmission to the Registrar of Civil Status who shall cause the death to be registered in a separate register.
