2. Interpretation In this Act— “Controller” means the Controller of the Industrial Property appointed under section 3 of the Patents, Industrial Designs and Trademarks Act; “geographical indication” means an indication which identifies a product as originating in the territory of a country, or a region or locality in that territory, where a given quality, reputation or other characteristic of the product is essentially attributable to its geographical origin; “law practitioner” has the same meaning as in the Law Practitioners Act; G9 – 1 [Issue 1] “Minister” means the Minister to whom responsibility for the subject of international trade is assigned; “Paris Convention” means the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property of 1883; “producer” means— (a) any producer of agricultural products or any other person exploiting natural products; (b) any manufacturer of products of handicraft or industry; “product” means any natural or agricultural product or any product of handicraft or industry; “Register” means the Register of Geographical Indications; “Tribunal” means the Tribunal established under section 9 of the Patents, Industrial Design and Trademarks Act.
