47. Meaning of words in penalty clauses Where several penalties are provided for an offence, the use of— (a) “or” means that the penalties are to be inflicted alternatively; (b) “and” means that the penalties may be inflicted alternatively or cumulatively; (c) “together with” means that the penalties are to be inflicted cumulatively.
