18. Employment of canvassers prohibited
(1) (a) No moneylender or person acting on behalf of a moneylender
shall employ any agent or canvasser for the purpose of inviting any other
person to borrow money or to enter into any transaction involving the borrowing of money from the moneylender.
(b) No person shall act as such agent or canvasser, or demand or receive directly or indirectly any sum or other valuable consideration by way of
commission or otherwise for introducing or undertaking to introduce to a
moneylender any person desiring to borrow money.
(2) (a) Any contract by a borrower to pay to an agent or canvasser of a
moneylender a commission for obtaining a loan shall be null and void.
(b) Where any sum has been paid by way of commission or otherwise for such service, the agent or canvasser shall commit an offence and
shall, on conviction, be liable to a fine not exceeding 300 rupees.
