Section 2: Allowances to Ministers and Members

2. Allowances to Ministers and Members (1) Subject to this section, Ministers and other Members of the Assembly shall be paid the appropriate allowances specified in the Schedule. (2) There shall be paid only one allowance under Part I of the Schedule and where such an allowance is so paid, no allowance shall be payable under Part II of the Schedule. (3) The allowances payable under subsection (1) shall be paid by equal monthly instalments at the end of each month. (4) The allowances shall be payable— (a) with respect to the Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister, a Minister, a Parliamentary Private Secretary, a Junior Minister, the Leader of the Opposition, a Whip or the Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee, from the day of appointment; (b) with respect to the Speaker, the Deputy Speaker or the Deputy Chairperson of Committees, from the day on which he is elected; (c) with respect to a Member, from the day on which he makes and subscribes the oath prescribed in section 67 of the Constitution.
