23C. Functions of Department
The Department shall have such functions as are necessary
to further its objects most efficiently and effectively and shall, in
particular –
(a) develop policies and measures for enhancement of
safety and health at places of work;
(b) implement enforcement programmes for ensuring
compliance with the existing legislative framework;
(c) conduct sensitisation programmes on occupational
safety and health for stakeholders;

(d) publish and disseminate information and guidance
materials on matters related to occupational safety and
health;
(e) coordinate with relevant international organisations
and other national authorities on occupational safety
and health matters;
(f) establish a mechanism for the collection and analysis
of data on occupational accidents and diseases;
(g) advise the Permanent Secretary and the Minister on
matters related to occupational safety and health;
(h) do such other things as may be necessary for the
attainment of its objects; and
(i) carry out such other activities in relation to occupational
safety and health as may be prescribed.
