54. Escalators
(1) All parts and working gear, including the anchoring and fixing appliances, of every escalator shall—
(a) be of substantial construction, sound material, adequate strength
and free from patent defect, and shall be properly maintained; and
(b) be thoroughly examined by a registered machinery inspector at
least once every 6 months.
(2) The original report of the result of every such examination in the form
set out in the Nineteenth Schedule shall be sent by the owner to the Director, Occupational Safety and Health within 28 days of the examination.
(3) Every escalator shall be provided with at least 2 readily accessible
emergency stop controls.
