79. Radiation
(1) Effective measures shall be taken, so far as is practicable, to restrict
the extent to which employees may be exposed to radiation in the course of
their employment.
(2) No employer shall allow an employee to be exposed to radiation to a
greater extent than is necessary for the purposes of his work.
(3) All sources of radiation shall, so far as is reasonably practicable, be
adequately shielded.
(4) Every employee liable to be exposed to radiation shall be provided
with appropriate instructions concerning the hazards involved and the precautions to be observed.
(5) An employer shall do all that is practicable to prevent—
(a) the inhalation or ingestion by an employee of any radioactive
substance; and
(b) the contamination of the body or of the clothing of an employee
by any radio-active substance.
(6) An employer shall cause his employee who is exposed to radiation to
be medically examined free of charge at intervals of not more than 6 months
or at such intervals as a medical practitioner may advise or as the Permanent
Secretary may direct in writing.
