60. Power to deny entry to vessels (1) Where the Port Master has reason to believe that a vessel intending to enter a port does not comply with the requirements of any international convention relating to pollution or safety, to which Mauritius is a party, he shall immediately report the matter to the Authority. (2) Where the Authority is satisfied that the vessel presents an unreasonable threat of harm to the marine environment or the safety of the port, it may deny the entry of the vessel and shall report the matter to the Director of Shipping. (3) If the owner or master of any vehicle fails to comply with any direction given in pursuance of subsection (1), the owner or master shall, notwithstanding section 32 (4), commit an offence and shall, on conviction, be liable to a fine not exceeding 150,000 rupees and to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 4 years.
