18. Radioactive waste
(1) Every person who is licensed to generate, keep or manage radioactive
waste shall—
(a) be responsible for the safe management of radioactive waste
generated by the practice or source for which he is authorised;
(b) when purchasing a sealed source, make contractual arrangements
for the return of the spent sealed source to the manufacturer; and
(c) appoint a technically competent person to be a Radioactive
Waste Management Officer in order to assist the licensee in the
safe and efficient on-site management of radioactive waste.
(2) Subject to the approval of the Authority, the Radioactive Waste Management Officer and the Radioactive Safety Officer referred to in section 16
may be the same person depending on the size and complexity of the waste
management activities.
