Section 27: Accommodation of detainee

27. Accommodation of detainee (1) Male and female detainees shall be confined in separate institutions, or in separate parts of an institution in such manner as to prevent, as far as practicable, their seeing or communicating with each other. (2) The infant child of a female detainee may be received into an institution with his mother and may be supplied with clothing and necessaries at public expense until— (a) he attains the age of 5 years; or (b) arrangements for his proper care outside the institution are made, whichever is the earlier.
