Section 185: Temporary traffic signs

185. Temporary traffic signs (1) A police officer, or a person acting under the instructions of the Commissioner of Police, may place on— (a) a road; (b) a structure on a road, a traffic sign of any size, colour or type prescribed or authorised under section 184 (3), which indicates such prohibitions, restrictions or requirements relating to vehicular traffic as may be necessary or expedient to prevent or mitigate— (i) congestion or obstruction of traffic; or (ii) danger to or from traffic in consequence of an accident or other unforeseen or extraordinary circumstances. (2) The powers conferred by subsection (1) may also be exercised by the Permanent Secretary or the Road Development Authority when engaged upon works of maintenance or reconstruction in respect of the length of road which is being maintained or reconstructed. (3) A traffic sign placed in accordance with this section shall be removed as soon as the circumstances or works on account of which it was placed have ceased to exist, or have been completed.
