Section 87: Production of skipper’s licence

87. Production of skipper’s licence (1) Any person who operates or is in charge of a pleasure craft in a navigational area shall, at the request of an authorised officer, produce his skipper's licence or a copy thereof. (2) Subject to subsection (3), any person who contravenes subsection (1) shall commit an offence and shall, on conviction, be liable to a fine of not less than 1,000 rupees and not exceeding 2,000 rupees and to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 3 months. (3) Where the licensee— (a) fails to produce his skipper’s licence or a copy thereof; or (b) produces a copy of his skipper’s licence, following a request made under subsection (1), the authorised officer may require him to produce his skipper’s licence within 5 days at such Coast Guard Station or police station, or to the Authority, as the person may specify. (4) Where the licensee fails to comply with a requirement made under subsection (3), he shall commit an offence and shall, on conviction, be liable to pay a fine of not less than 1,000 rupees and not exceeding 10,000 rupees and to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year.
