54. Witness examined in absence of accused
Where on a warrant for crime the accused has not been found, or after
being apprehended has escaped, the Magistrate of the district where the
offence is alleged to have been committed shall, notwithstanding the absence
of the accused, proceed to examine witnesses upon the facts and circumstances of the case, in the manner prescribed for such offence.
