Section 161: Registration of contracts

161. Registration of contracts (1) There shall be no fixed period for the registration of any contract between a contractor and a local authority, or of any bond given as security in the performance of the contract, but the contract or bond shall be registered before any use is made of it in a public deed or in a Court, unless the contract or bond is exempted from registration. L18 – 85 [Issue 4] Local Government Act (2) Notwithstanding any other enactment, any deed witnessing the sale of immovable property to, or the creation of any servitude in favour of a local authority, shall be registered by the Registrar-General free of charge and shall be transcribed by the Conservator of Mortgages free of duty.
