Section 20A: Failure to register vehicle

20A. Failure to register vehicle (1) Where the owner fails to report a transfer referred to in section 17 (1) (b) to the Commissioner within the period specified in that section, or if the person referred to in section 20, fails to notify the Commissioner of the fact of becoming owner within the period specified in that section, the owner or that person shall commit an offence. (2) Where the new owner or the person referred to in section 20 fails to register the vehicle within the period specified in section 17 (1) (d) or section 20 as the case may be, the new owner or that person shall be liable to a surcharge of— (a) 20 per cent where he registers the vehicle after the period of 15 days but within a period of 45 days; R (A3) – 13 [Issue 1] Road Traffic (Amendment No. 2) Act 2006 (b) 50 per cent where he registers the vehicle after a period of 45 days.
