Section 8: Formalities of first registration

8. Formalities of first registration (1) The Commissioner shall upon registration of a vehicle or trailer— (a) enter in the register, particulars of the motor vehicle or trailer and its owner; (b) assign to the motor vehicle or trailer a registration mark; and (c) issue to the owner of the motor vehicle or trailer a registration book in such form as may be approved by the Commissioner and containing particulars specified in paragraphs (a) and (b). (2) No motor vehicle or trailer shall be registered unless it— (a) complies with the provisions of this Act or regulations made thereunder with regard to the maximum limits permitted for axle weights, gross weight, height, length and width of such motor vehicle or trailer; or (b) has been exempted by the Commissioner from compliance with the limits under paragraph (a).
