5. Qualifications of electors
(1) Subject to subsection (2), a person shall be entitled to be registered
as an elector if, and shall not be so entitled unless, he—
(a) is a citizen of Mauritius of not less than the age of 18 years;
(b) is a resident of Rodrigues on the prescribed date.
(2) No person shall be registered as an elector—
(a) in more than one local region;
(b) in a local region where he is not a resident on the prescribed
date provided by the Representation of the People Act;
(c) if he—
(i) is under sentence of death or is serving a sentence of
imprisonment, by whatever name called, exceeding
12 months, imposed on him by a Court of law of the
Republic of Mauritius;
(ii) is a person adjudged to be of unsound mind or detained as
a criminal lunatic under any law in force in Mauritius;
(iii) is disqualified for registration by any law in force in Mauritius relating to offences connected with elections.
