53. Offences
(1) Any person who—
(a) knowingly makes a declaration required under section 40 or
knowingly furnishes information under section 45 which is false
in any material particular;
(b) prevents or impedes, or attempts to prevent or impede, any officer from entering any land or from exercising any of his powers
under this Act;
(c) fails to comply with any request made by an officer under section 42 (b); or
(d) otherwise contravenes this Act,
shall commit an offence and shall, on conviction, be liable to a fine not
exceeding 1,000 rupees and to imprisonment for a term not exceeding
12 months.
(2) Where a planter or métayer has been convicted of an offence under
subsection (1) (b), the Board may withhold any compensation payable to him.
