26. Offences and penalties (1) Any person who contravenes any provision of this Act or any regulation made under it shall commit an offence. (2) Any person who commits an offence shall, on conviction— (a) where the offence relates to a species of wildlife listed in the Fourth Schedule, be liable to a fine not exceeding 100,000 rupees and to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 5 years; (b) in any other case, be liable to a fine not exceeding 50,000 rupees and to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 3 years.
