48. Duties and powers of Executive Committee (1) Subject to the procedures and exceptions laid down in section 160, an Executive Committee shall be responsible for the approval of the procurement of goods and services. (2) In the exercise of their powers, the members of an Executive Committee shall be collectively responsible to the Council. (3) The term of office of an Executive Committee shall be 2 years, commencing after the election of a Lord Mayor, Mayor or Chairperson of a District Council. (4) Every member of an Executive Committee shall, upon ceasing to be a member of the local authority by which he was appointed, also cease to be a member of the Executive Committee. (5) Every decision taken by an Executive Committee under subsection (1) shall be reported at the next Council meeting. (6) Where a vacancy occurs for a member designated under section 47 (2) (c), he shall be replaced by another Councillor who shall hold office until such time as the original member, whom he is called upon to replace, would have normally vacated his office.
