Section 71: Protection of officers

71. Protection of officers (1) No civil liability shall attach to an officer for an act committed in the exercise of powers or functions under this Act. (2) A liability that would, but for subsection (1), attach to an officer, attaches instead to the Council. (3) Nothwithstanding subsection (2), a Chief Executive may take such disciplinary action against an officer in accordance with regulations made by the Local Government Service Commission under the Local Government Service Commission Act. (4) Sections 156 (3), 159 and 160 of the Criminal Code shall extend to cases of outrage and violence against an officer.
