72. Vacancy
(1) Where a vacancy occurs in respect of a local government office, the
Chief Executive shall, within one month of the occurrence, report the matter
to the Unified Local Government Service Board and make a recommendation
as to whether or not—
(a) the vacancy should be filled in a permanent, temporary or acting
capacity;

(b) the functions of the vacant office ought to be assigned to another officer in that local authority; or
(c) an officer from another local authority may be re-deployed to fill
the vacancy.
(2) Where a vacancy has to be filled by recruitment, the Unified Local
Government Service Board shall report the vacancy to the Local Government
Service Commission and the matter shall be governed by the Local Government Service Commission Act.
(3) The Unified Local Government Service Board may accept or reject any
recommendation made under subsection (1) but no vacancy shall, unless so
decided by the Board, be left unfilled for more than 6 months.
