29. Alterations to ships
(1) Where a registered ship is so altered as not to correspond with the
particulars relating to its tonnage or description contained in the Register, the
Registrar shall, on application made to him and on receipt of a certificate
from a surveyor stating the particulars of the alteration, cause the alteration
to be registered or direct that the ship be registered anew.
(2) For the purpose of the registration of an alteration to a ship, the
ship’s certificate of registration shall be produced to the Registrar, and he
shall, in his discretion, retain the certificate and grant a new certificate containing a description of the ship as altered, or endorse and sign on the existing certificate a notation of the alteration.
(3) The Registrar shall enter in the Register the particulars of the alteration, and the fact that a new certificate has been granted, or that the existing certificate has been endorsed.
